Registration

How to register

Registration is easy:

  1. Visit the page registration
  2. Enter your personal details (you may be asked for your SkypeTM name
  3. Click the 'Register' button

Allow Synchronisation

Allow your computer access to backup SkypeTM chat history with Kloud Sync, simply:

  1. Ensure that Kudos Chat Search for SkypeTM 3.x is installed
  2. Ensure that you are registered with this website, and signed in
  3. Click the 'Allow Sync' button at the top of the page (if this button is not visible, simply refresh the page)

'Kloud Sync' will begin to backup SkypeTM chat history automatically, beginning with the most recent messages first.


Searching

Searching all of your SkypeTM accounts registered with Kloud Sync at once is simple:

  1. Choose 'Search' in the main menu
  2. Enter a search query
  3. Click the 'Search' button

If results are not displaying this could be your SkypeTM chat history has not yet been fully synchronised. However also ensure:

  1. Kudos Chat Search for SkypeTM 3.x is installed
  2. You are registered with this website, and signed in
  3. You have allowed synchronisation

Desktop Search help

How it Works

Select your account

Within this dropdown will be listed all of the accounts registered with "Skype" and located within the default location. From this list choose the account for which you would like to search conversations.

I don't see any Skype accounts listed in the "Select your Skype account" drop down

 

Type into the "Term" field any word or term that you are looking for in your Skype conversations. If you remember the person who you were chatting with or the date before which the conversation had taken place, type these in too.

Click the "Search" button to begin your search.

The first search

The first time you search using Kudos Chat Search for Skype, a complete snapshot of your conversations will be taken. This will involve shutting Skype down momentarily. Kudos Chat Search for Skype will attempt to shut Skype down automatically, this might take some time about 30 seconds or so.

After a snapshot has been taken, searches on Skype conversations are very responsive. Moreover, you will be able to search even the most recent conversations.

Search again

Type into the search box on top of the search results and click the magnifying glass icon to search again. Or click the "<< Start page" link ontop of the search box to return to the full search form.

Skype won't shut down?

You can shut Skype down manually by right clicking on the Skype icon and choosing "Quit Skype".

Browse results

Results of your search will be listed after clicking the "Search" button. By default research results are listed in reverse date order. The order of results can be changed by clicking either the "Date" or "From" table column headings.

Clicking the "view in Skype" link will open that conversation in Skype. This allows you to continue a conversation easily. Please note that you may need to turn on conversation history to view the selected message.

Tips and hints

You can copy & paste messages by right clicking on a table cell and choosing "Copy" from the popup menu. Or by selecting text and [Ctrl+C] (or equivalent).

 

Export to spreadsheet like MicrosoftTM Excel

Conversations and search results can be exported to a spreadsheet or database application (such as MicrosoftTM Excel or MicrosoftTM Access) with a single click using the "Export to CSV" feature.

Export search results

  1. Select your Skype account to search
  2. Enter in your search term, people and/or date
  3. Once the search results are displayed, click the "Export to CSV" button

Export an entire conversation

  1. Select your Skype account to search
  2. Enter in your search term, people and/or date
  3. Click on the arrow button to zoom into the conversation of your choice
  4. Once the conversation is displayed, click the "Export to CSV" button

 

Backup

Backing up your Skype Chat history is easy with Kudos Chat Search for Skype

To backup your Skype chat history:

  1. Select the account you would like to backup (on the start page)
  2. In the top right corner, click the "Backup Skype account" button.
  3. A dialog window will popup, using this popup select the drive and/or folder you would like to store your backup .
  4. Click the "Ok" button.

If Skype is running it will be closed down momentarily to ensure that you have a complete backup.

Restore

Restoring your Skype Chat history is easy with Kudos Chat Search for Skype v2.1

These instructions assume you have taken a backup from this or another machine using Kudos Chat Search for Skype backup feature

Warning! Restoring will overwrite your current Skype chat history.

To restore your Skype chat history from a backup:

  1. In the top right corner, click the down arrow, and then select "Restore Skype account"
  2. A dialog window will popup, using this popup select the drive and/or folder where your backup is stored
  3. Click the "Ok" button.

If Skype is running it will be closed down momentarily to ensure that you have a complete backup.

Delete SkypeTM messages

Delete specific messages

SkypeTM chat messages and entire conversations can be deleted by selecting the messages you would like to delete and then clicking the "Delete selected items" button.

  1. Select your Skype account to search
  2. Enter in your search term, people and/or date
  3. Once the search results are displayed, choose the messages you would like to delete by selecting the corresponding checkbox to the right
  4. You can choose as many as you like
  5. Once you have checked the desired messages, click the "Delete selected items" button

Delete an entire conversation

  1. Select your Skype account to search
  2. Enter in your search term, people and/or date
  3. Click on the arrow button to zoom into the conversation of your choice
  4. Once the conversation is displayed, click the top most checkbox (just to the left of the word 'Date')
  5. Notice that all of the messages within the current conversation will be checked
  6. Click the "Delete selected items" button

Windows installation instructions

1. Download setup

Start by downloading Kudos Chat Search for Skype setup package.

2. Run setup

It is more than likely you will be asked if you would like to "Run" this application downloaded from the internet. Choose "Run" or "Yes" from the options provided.

3. Allow

Some more modern operating systems will ask if you have intended to start an install process, if prompted choose "Yes".

4. Begin installation

Now we have navigated our way through operating system security, it's time to install the application. click the "Next >" button to begin.

5. Uninstall previous versions

If you have a previous version of Kudos Chat Search for Skype installed, now is a great time to uninstall it. click the "Install" button when ready.

6,7. Allow Skype access

Kudos Chat Search for Skype talks to Skype but to do this it needs access. Allowing access is easy:

  1. Open Skype
  2. Click the allow access button

8,9. Install Adobe Air

The installer will automatically open the Adobe Air installer. If you do not have this installed check the "I Agree" button, otherwise click the "Done" button.

10. Finish

The installer will open Kudos Chat Search for Skype. Remember to return to the installer and click "Next" and "Finish" to close the installer down.

Trouble shooting

Authorization pending

Kudos Chat Search for Skype, talks to Skype but to do this it needs access. Allowing access is easy:

  1. Open Skype
  2. Click the allow access button
Skype allow access

Authorization refused

Kudos Chat Search for Skype, talks to Skype but to do this it needs access. Chances you disallowed access to Kudos Chat Search for skype. To allow access follow the below steps:

  1. Open Skype
  2. From the "Tools" menu select "Options"
  3. Click on "Advanced" in the left panel
  4. At the bottom the right panel, click the "Manage other program's access to Skype"
  5. Choose the "Change" button to the right of "KudosSkypeSearchAgent.exe"
  6. Choose the radio button labeled "Allow this program to use Skype"
  7. Click the "Ok" button, this will close the dialog window
  8. Click the "Ok" button, this will close the settings dialog
  9. Click the "Save" button, to save these settings

Authorization not available

This can be caused for two reasons:

  1. Skype has been configured to disallow Kudos Chat Search for Skype, follow the instructions above.
  2. Access for Kudos Skype Search for Skype has been removed, in this case reboot your computer any try again.

Update Skype links not working

This could be caused for two reasons:

  1. The "click to call" browser extension is not installed.
  2. Chrome is your default browser.

Click to call is a browser extension that can easily be downloaded and installed from the SkypeTM app store; simply:

  1. Visit http://www.skype.com,
  2. From the "Get Skype" menu choose "Click to call".
  3. Click the download button, and follow the installation instructions.

If chrome is your default browser, the "view in Skype links" will not work, this issue will be resolved in the next release of Kudos Chat Search for SkypeTM.

I don't see any Skype accounts listed in the ‘Select your Skype account' drop down

This typically occurs when Skype profile information is not stored at the default directory for your operating system.

Please check that you have a Skype profile folder, named with your ‘Skype name' (Skype Id), at the default directory for your operating system. Then check that in that folder, \[SKYPE_ID]\ you can find a file called ‘main.db'. This is Skype's primary database file.

Open the Skype application and check that Skype itself can find accounts on your computer.

Finally test a search on your Skype account.
